Cognet~X Inc.: For Managed Care Pharmacists, the Pay Is Greener on the Pharmaceutical Company Side, Cognet~X, Inc. Reports

FEASTERVILLE---(March 25, 2002)---Managed care pharmacists who work for a pharmaceutical company are much more likely to earn more than $100,000 per year, compared to pharmacists who are employed by managed care organizations, according to a recent Cognet~X, Inc. salary survey.

In Cognet~X's survey of 280 managed care pharmacists, 74% of the pharmacists employed by a pharmaceutical company reported annual base salaries of $100,000 or more. By contrast, only 40% of pharmacists from managed care plans said their salaries were at or above $100,000.

In addition, while 23% of pharmaceutical company based pharmacists generated salaries between $80,000 and $100,000, 42% of the managed care plan respondents placed their salary in this range.

Interestingly, when asked to rate their satisfaction with their current salary on a 1-to-10 scale (with 1 equal to "extremely dissatisfied" and 10 equal to "extremely satisfied", only 37% of all respondents indicated they were very to extremely satisfied with their salary.

A significant majority (82%) had been involved in managed care for at least 5 years, and 46% said they had 10 or more years of experience in managed healthcare. Nearly three-quarters of respondents had undergraduate degrees in pharmacology, and 40% said they had received a doctorate in pharmacology. About one-fifth indicated they graduated from a master in business administration program.

A majority (65%) of respondents were male. Three-quarters of all respondents indicated they belonged to the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy; in most cases, employers contributed to respondents' fees in AMCP and other professional organizations.
